Twelve weeks later...

how has it been almost 3 months since we have added chloe to our lives?? it's as though we have always had her, i find it hard to remember life before her :)
so actually it's 11.5 weeks later, but here we are none the less. so aside from being super busy and giving anything to have one more hand let alone two more hands, we are doing well and have had some fun along the way. not that i need to give excuses as to why i haven't updated this blog but a big one is we are having a hard time putting pictures from our 10 different cameras (oy vey) on one computer (another oy-vey) we are in dire need of stream lining our situation :)

so the past few months have had some ups and downs- adjusting to life with 2 kids, being only 2 years apart has made for some fun moments! and by fun i mean challenging. i find myself praying for patience and mercy... mostly patience. there has been a lot of laughter and quite a few tears, by me, penelope and chloe! i haven't seen david break down and cry yet but i know he has wanted to :) but i have to say that we are blessed and both kids are great.(i mean really what else am i going to say?) penelope still LOVES her sister, even though my attention has been severely shifted, i think i miss pen and my time together more than she does :) and chloe is doing really well, she is very chill and although she has her demands, they aren't unreasonable. in this house we are learning about sacrifice, and it is a good lesson. having children really makes you realize how selfish we are. so it has been a journey, but it is good- and i am not just saying that for all of you who are about to have your second children- it is a process to re-learn life and re-learn priorities... and even though there are times i wish i could escape to a job, i am SO thankful for the abiltiy to stay home with them and i try to remember to cherish these times because it does go by so fast. so here are some of the things we have been up to the past few months...

Easter sunday
we celebrated easter at petco park this year, and penelope had her first trip on the train... she was so excited and it was quite the experience. her grandma (mavany), aunt lea, uncle brian, marc all joined us to take the train downtown to the park. it was a beautiful day and the padres won!

Sunday afternoon at the beach
it was a glorious day so we packed up the kids and headed out to the beach... well we started out trying to go to church and then it was too late, so we went to the beach instead. oh and penny went in the water for the first time with out being afraid!

we headed out to solana beach for a dinner time picnic and let penelope run around at the park. it started out nice and ended up SO cold, i had to bundle chloe up!

so chloe finally made her way into our lives... we really thought she wasn't going to come- but i was induced on tuesday night and chloe arrived 4.5 hours later at 4:33 am on wednesday february 25th.

penelope was very excited about her sister (and the loli-pop at 10am)

she insisted on holding chloe- she kicked grandma off the chair and made us let her hold her new sister.

Guess who's a Two!

where have the past 2 years gone? all of a sudden i have a two year old and a second child that should have already been here... it is sometimes scary to me how fast life moves.

she was very into her presents and grandma mavany has way more pictures (i was using her camera) so when she comes back i will get those pictures from her and post a few more :) she had a great day- we made cupcakes and had lunch and watched Wall-e

"on time is when i get there." a saying made known by grandma martha (verdugo)

i have always thought penelope to be more of a verdugo than a wiese... she looks like a verdugo and sleeps like one (she has the "condition") and i am starting to realize that her sister chloe is going to be even more so a verdugo. whose second kid doesn't come on-time or early even? so we are waiting for her to make her grand entrance into this world, in her own time... unless we have to induce- then she will be forced to come and more than likely not be happy about it :)

so as we all wait, and try to be patient these are some of the things we have been doing to occupy our time until the newest addition to our family arrives...

peneleope gets to hang out with grandma mavany while i go to the doctors office- which is once a week these days! good thing grandma works at a pre-school and is the director so she can let penny play on the playground anytime she wants... i think pen is ready for preschool :)

we took an adventure down to the zoo to say hi to monkeys and with all the walking david and penny needed to take a moment on the footsie wootsie... pretty funny.

i never tried one with penny but i got one for chloe, thinking that i would be using one a little more. apparently you can use it for kids up to 35lbs. david was curious and wanted to try it out- so we asked pen to be our model and she was into it... hopefully chloe will like it too!

the mall...
since the weather has been so poor- either raining, wet or cold (for us sad so cal residents) we have taken to the play area in the mall. then i go for nice long walks and pen is my companion- trying to walk sister chloe out... but pen doesn't seem to mind because we often meet up with friends and get pretzels.

CHLOE!! hurry up, i want to be a big sister!

my mom, bless her heart, took penelope on new years eve on a little road trip up to my parents new home in rogue river, or. (it is just on the other side of the oregon border) she is braver than i, but apparently penelope did really well. and i can attest because we (david and i) drove up a few days later to get her and check out my parents new place- and she was amazing on the drive home... we drove straight through with one 2 hour break for dinner. and she only slept for 2 hours of it! however while in oregon we had a great time exploring and experiencing the cold...

Christmas!

i found the christmas pictures! the thing is we don't have one location that photos end up... i suppose that is the curse of the digital age and having 3 different computers we use.

Christmas was a bit different this year... i must say penelope was way into presents and she had plenty to open! i can see why my parents always loved christmas morning with us. i guess the hard part will be to drill into her the purpose of christmas and pray that she understands it and will grow to love to give gifts as much as she likes to get the presents :)

it was hard to not have my parents around this year- it is an adjustment, we went from craziness of previous years to a very mellow day, didn't leave the house. it would be nice to have a balance of the chaos and calm- i know one day we will strike that balance :)

so it has been awhile since our last post... well you will see why. it all started with an amazing trip to disneyland- the annual trip with the verdugo family. lots of fun! this particular trip penelope broadened her experience by going on pirates of the caribbean, haunted mansion and peter pan. she had a blast, fell in love with minnie mouse - and "mick" mouse- very cute :)

pen LOVED minnie from a distance, but of course once it was our turn she shut down and was "all done, all done" but we got a pic to remember the moment

so she was traipsing around the hotel lobby like she was famous and people were feeding her ego for sure... it was a pretty funny site to see.

after disneyland (we literally went from the hotel to the airport) penelope and i traveled to florida to attend my grandfathers memorial service. it was pen's first time on an airplane and did quite well... we had a few traumatizing moments but all in all it was worth the trip. it was my grandmothers first time meeting penny- glad we had the opportunity. thanks to all of you who prayed for us!

so the last time sarah and penny hung out it started and ended in tears, but this time pen was so excited to see sarah and even crawled into her lap to look at pictures!

not really thinking about details of this trip, and how penny has severe separation anxiety we spent the entire memorial service outside the church- boo. but i was still glad i was able to come and see family.

such a princess... grandma gave her the spa treatment and they were working on their toes

so florida was a success... we got home on monday night (late) and took off wednesday morning (early!) for catalina. we were going to catalina for 3 nights to celebrate thanksgiving with mavany, brian, lea and marc. mavany rented a condo over there where we all stayed and had a great time hanging out, walking and preparing a turkey dinner. it was much needed R&R for me :) so many helpers around!

well we got home from our many travels and it was already december. funny how that happened this year- thanksgiving weekend ended and december began, just like that. so we were planning on getting back into the swing of things when penelope gets sick. it started on wednesday when she woke up cranky, and went back to sleep only an hour and a half after she woke up. then she slept ALL DAY- i woke her up around 6 to give her food and make sure she would sleep thru the night but she was still so tired, i could only keep her up for a couple of hours. then thursday she woke up at 11ish, but was not feeling well at all- would just sit on the couch. friday she slept until 2 pm and saturday slept until 4pm. now some of you are wondering why wouldn't that mother think to take her to the doctor already??!! well really it is because penelope loves to sleep. she is my champion sleeper. i knew she wasn't feeling well but everyday just thought she would turn the corner... my bad. i know now to trust my instincts. that and everytime i took her temperature it never registered above 100, maybe 101. but saturday i called the pediatrician and asked him if we should take her to the ER. he didn't say yes, but didn't say no either, so i decided to trust my instincts and go. we took her to childrens and once we were seen, to our surprise they wanted to admit her overnight. i was taken by surprise for sure... but it was a good thing because her temperature reached 104 at one point and i am sure i would not have noticed that at home here. she was dehydrated, had ear infections in both ears and a pretty bad diaper rash oh and pneumonia to top it off. i am truly surprised they did not call CPS on us. the way the doctor was talking to us made it seem like we were neglegent for not coming in sooner. so they gave her 2 bags of IV fluids then maintaining IV and hooked up an oxygen sensor to her toe which made her toe glow red and she slept. she was put on antibiotics and sent home 2 days later. crazy.

knowing she was more than likely dehydrated david and i discussed how they keep and IV in a toddler... this is how :(

when she started to feel better and discovered the IV in her hand she just went about her business and adapted to her new life with a paddle hand.

now for those of you who just adore penny's curls and find it hard to believe that one day she will resent those luscious locks, it's only because you don't get to see this...

we think she was trying to grow dreads... as her mother i love her cute curls, but oh man it is not fun in the mornings! the pictures don't quite do it's justice but you get the idea. i have saved a few good hair mornings to share with the play group. sorry penny!

it only seemed appropriate that penny be a monkey for halloween. she is quite the climber and hangs on me all the time. i must say she made a cute little monkey. charlotte stopped by and we tried our hand at trick or treating. oh man did they like it. they caught on pretty quick... it was really cute to hear charlotte say happy halloween and for penny to say trick or treat. pen was really strutting her stuff down that street.

it was a little warm in the house...

penny didn't quite understand you weren't supposed to go in the house.

October Birthdays!

David, lea and marc's birthdays are all in october. actually marc and lea share the same birthday- pretty random and fun! so in the grand tradition of sharing, we celebrated all birthdays in one evening. you would think i would post some pictures of the birthday peeps... nope. apparently penelope didn't grasp that this event was not about here. she was right in the middle of it all, "helping".

apparently i have not been as good as i thought i would about this blog. but here are some more pictures with what we have been doing...

about a month ago Anjuli, manoah, kelly, noah, mia, kara, kaden, penelope and I all went to the Wild Animal Park. after quite some time of playing and watching overheated animals, someone had the great idea to take the kids on the tram ride. kara wised up to this and decided she needed to get going so that left the rest of us- 3 toddlers, 1 new born and only 3 adults (we are out numbered here). we arrived to the line just as a tram was taking off... it was actually pretty fun and funny to see us all trying to confine them in the line. me on the ground feeding them crackers, granola bars and watching them crawl under the bars and anjuli chasing them down... don't you wish you could have been there? after 15 minutes of that another tram came and as we all said a prayer that we would get on that one, but alas we were 10 people away from the cut off. thankfully about 5 minutes later another one came and we had prime seating arrangements :) but really by the time we got on the tram they were into it, (well for the first 10 minutes at least) and we all had a good time. yes i would do it again :)

Gali, Penelope and I went to the childrens museum a few weeks ago. they had a great time...

play day mondays

Mondays are a time when a group of us gets together and the kids play while we moms hang out... our newest edition to the group is mino. i call it mino mondays around here because penelope and i have the privilege of watching mino on mondays. here are some pictures from the this past monday when we all were hanging out at our place.

i was bummed i didn't have the camera out when i flipped mino on his tummy for some "tummy time" because she laid down with him to do her tummy time, and they both started laughing. she loves to help hold his bottle and make sure he has his pacifier... hopefully she will be this helpful and loving when her little sister comes around :)

saturday we headed up to bates nut farm to select our pumpkins... penelope had a great time climbing through all the pumpkins trying to find the very best to take home.

It took some convincing but once she was in the jump house it was hard to get her out! she had a great time running full speed and wiping out :)

and fed the animals... i thought this one was going to kiss her :)

it was the perfect Fall day and we had a great time. perhaps we will make another visit but with a costume... if we can ever decide what she should be for halloween.

so penelope, mino (st. lucas) and i headed out to bates nut farm to meet up with anjuli, manoh, maria, gali, mindy and avery. it was a great day and thank you to anjuli, maria and mindy for helping me with the amazingly content mino! he is preparing me for my second- he is a very sweet boy! although we have no pictures to document mindy, avery and mino, we were glad they were there! my pictures are compliments of anjuli- soon i too will get on the ball and bring my camera.

pen's going to be a big sister :) we will hopefully find out who the next one is at the end of this month. i am already 17 weeks- it's amazing how quickly time passes... bummer that i am finally jumping on this blog thing and i am going to have to start a brand new one soon.

so one year later and i am finally joining penelope in the wonderful world of blogging. a lot has happened and for those of you who are not around to witness it first hand, hear is a way to stay connected... i will do my best to keep it up to date but chasing around a one year old doesn't allow me much time to document it!
